Controversial new Nandos ad

This one should get a few tongues wagging. Here’s the new Nandos ad that is being released today on TV. Given the recent launch of the new breakaway Congress of the People (Cope) party from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) — and imminent elections next year, this one is going to be hotter than extra hot peri peri!

In true Nandos style, the ad is newsworthy, cheeky, funny and clever… a great piece of satire. The ad features internationally reknown political satirist Evita Bezuidenhout/Pieter Dirk-Uys. Will be interesting to see if any other political parties are lampooned in follow-up ads as we get closer to elections.

It’s not the first time Nandos have created ads that plug in to the prevailing Zeitgeist of the country: their last ad was on the back of internet phenomenon Vernon Koekemoer, with added Chuck Norris! Viva democracy!

So, what do you think? A good, witty piece of satire or have they “crossed the line”?

err…agree that its lame, perhaps on the better side of lame if ever there is such.
maybe not lame afterall but bland. I just think they had a clever idea, but could have used it way better than what they’ve done here. bland I say.

I think it’s FAB. Political satire is under threat in SA. It’s good to see Evita’s still being cheeky!

I cannot see how they could have “crossed the line”?

For goodness sake, the ANC haven’t delivered the goods and they certainly won’t be able to in the forseeable future! If they have so much faith in themselves, why are they in such a tizz about COPE’s name?

The ad is sweet – certainly not offensive!

It’s a great ad. As usual Nando’s gets everyone talking and that’s what it’s all about is it not? My favourite comment – Darb : Surprised the tagline isn’t “We can’t cope with just A and C”
