News agency Al-Jazeera has been hacked for the second time in less than a week.

The attack has seen the agency sending out false headlines and updates from its mobile alerts service. According to HackRead, it is the work of the Syrian Electronic Army — a group formed in support of the current Syrian regime. Its mission, apparently, is “to amplify the voices of the Syrian right.”

The hacker collective posted news of the attack to its Facebook page and its official site.

Among the updates sent out was one claiming that there had been an attempted assassination on the prime minister of Qatar.

The previous hack, which saw the front page of Al Jazeera’s site defaced was the work of a group calling itself al-Rashedon.

That there have been two attacks on the agency suggests that it is the latest frontline in a cyber-war between supporters and opponents of the Syrian regime. The conflict previously affected the Reuters news blog.
