Popular webcominc The Oatmeal is being sued by a greeting card company called Oatmeal Studios. Way to make yourself popular, random greeting card company.
Inman has been selling cards based on some of his more famous comics through the chain, as well on his website.
Apparently Oatmeal Studios caught wind of this and decided to sue Inaman and Recycled Greetings for infringing on the phrase “Oatmeal Studios”.
The company says that the name is too similar and that people might get confused and think that the two businesses are related. According to Ars Technica , the suit doesn’t contain any specific claims for damages.
This is the second time this year that Inman has been slapped with what appears to be a ridiculous lawsuit. A few months ago, he got into a spat with competing comedy site Funnyjunk after accusing the latter of stealing his content.
FunnyJunk’s lawyer then accused Inman of defamation and demanded US$20 000 in damages. Inman responded with a comic of a woman, supposedly representing Carreon’s mother in an intimate pose with a Kodiak bear.
He also ended up raising over US$200 000 half of which was donated to a wildlife charity, with the other half going to cancer research.
