Twitter officially launches filters, takes Instagram fight to next level

The Twitter versus Instagram episode just went from messy divorce to a no-holds-barred bare knuckle fight.
Just hours after Instagram officially shut off card integration on Twitter — meaning that you can no longer preview its photos — the social network launched its own photo filtering service.
The ability to take and filter photos directly from Twitter has been in the works for a while now . In what looks to be a bid on Twitter’s part to claw users away from Instagram, its service offers a few extra options too.
Unlinke Instagram for instance, you don’t have to have a square photo and can crop the ones you’ve taken freely. You can also take a bird’s-eye view and see how each filter would affect your photo in a single grid view, or swipe through looks to compare your options.
The filters were built in collaboration with photo-editing specialist Aviary , which powers the filters and effects.
The update is available now on Google Play and the App Store.
