After months of waiting, Open Road Films has set a date for the release of it biopic on legendary technology pioneer Steve Jobs, according to the Hollywood Reporter [1]. The film, which is set to play on the last night of the Sundance film festival, stars Ashton Kutcher in the title role.

The release date was carefully chosen to coincide with Apple’s 37th anniversary — April 19.

Directed by third time director Joshua Michael Stern and written by Matthew Whitely, the film follows Jobs’ rise from college dropout to one of the most worshipped tech entrepreneurs of the 20th and 21st centuries. The film will only chronicle Jobs’ life from 1971 to 2000 — which will show his term as CEO of Apple, him leaving the company in the 80s and the founding of Next.

According to the Reporter, to keep authenticity with Jobs’ life, part of the film was shot in the historic garage where Jobs and Steve Wozniak first set up shop at his family’s home in Palo Alto, California.

Since the publication of Walter Isaacs’ revealing biography of Jobs, his life has been of much debate and interest to the tech community. Jobs’ vision and drive created a company that is regarded as one of the best tech companies in the world. Apple is also currently one of the most profitable companies in the world, with little to no losses reported each quarter.

The film also stars Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak along with other Hollywood veterans such as Dermot Mulroney, Matthew Modine, J. K. Simmons and Lukas Haas.

Apple geeks: only three months to go.
