Zomato now lets you order food online from your favourite restaurants

Restaurant listing service Zomato has introduced online ordering capability to its app and web for its users in South Africa. The online ordering capability was introduced in India, Delhi in April this year.

With this feature, Zomato users can now order from within the iOS, Android app and on the web. Users not only to see restaurant listings but can make and pay for their food orders within the app, without having to leave their humble abodes. Orders can be followed with real-time notifications.

“We do believe it is applications such as this one that will see more restaurants moving in the same direction as technology. Convenience is what every user seeks and technology is assisting in making this possible,” Steven Murray, Zomato’s South African Manager, said in a recent media release.

This is not a new service in the South African market. We have seen it with OrderIn, but its presence within the Zomato app is a great step for the service and ultimately for the consumers as it gives them more options.

Though South Africans are not living in the dark ages, it is a fact that many restaurants are yet to capitalise on offering online services.

A move like this will go a long way in assisting restaurants to fully offer a complete online service without it possessing the necessary technology know-how by letting Zomato take care of it. The restaurants can then focus on accepting the orders and providing them.

The service is currently available in Johannesburg. Users can make orders for home delivery from a selection of over 150 restaurants, including Burgerack, Stella Luna, Simply Asia, Sandwich Baron, Founder’s Grill and others.

Zomato is aiming to have 250 orders per day across South Africa by the end of 2015.
