Al Jazeera’s AJ+ launches Apple TV app

Al Jazeera’s maverick online news and current events channel AJ+ has announced the launch of its Apple TV app, bringing its offering to TVs for the first time.

The new tvOS App allows users to consume and engage with AJ+ content and, according to Al Jazeera, features “unique emoji reactions feature that replaces the classic star rating system used by many publishers”.

This, it says, not only “allows users to express themselves more emotively” but is also channeled back to the newsroom to allow producers to gauge how the content is performing with the audience.

“Innovative storytelling and reporting about stories that matter in formats that appeal to our audience as well as distributing this content natively to our audience has always been a key pillar of our strategy,” says Dima Khatib, Managing Director of AJ+.

According to the media house, the AJ+ team has and will be curating content specifically for Apple TV audiences.
