Windows 10 is now running on over 200 million devices

Windows 10 has been installed on over 200 million devices within six months of its launch, Microsoft announced.

When Windows 10 launched on 29 June 2015, within 24 hours it was running on more than 14-million devices and four weeks later, it was on more than 75-million devices.

“Windows 10 adoption is accelerating, with more than 40% of new Windows 10 devices becoming active since Black Friday,” notes Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s senior VP.

The latest Windows version also has the fastest adoption rate. It has beaten Windows 7 by nearly 140% and Windows 8 by nearly 400% within the same time frame. The company however has not provided numbers into the adoption in terms of devices and markets.

Black Friday 2015 was kind to Windows 10 as the OS saw more than 40% of new Windows 10 devices activated since. With enterprise and education customers, more than 76% of its enterprise customers are in active pilots of Windows 10, and Microsoft now has over 22-million devices running Windows 10 across enterprise and education customers.

During December users spent over 11-billion hours on Windows 10 in December alone, a record for Windows according to Mehdi. Microsoft Edge, Windows’ new internet browser, saw users spend over 44.5-billion minutes using it across Windows 10 devices in December.

An adoption like this presents Microsoft with many opportunities as the growing users will be hungry for apps. The company points out that its new Windows Store saw a 200% increase in the number of paid transactions from PC and tablet customers and 60% of those customer were new to the Store. Windows 10 also generated more than a 450% increase in revenue per device during the festive season.
