Daily iPhone 5 leak reveals next-gen motherboard

It’s not a given that Apple’s next-gen iPhone is being released 12 September, but a hope that iPhone fans hold dear. Whatever the outcome as, the tap is open and hardware leaks are now a flood. Example: these images of the iPhone 5’s motherboard promise much for the future of iDevices.

The guts of your next iPhone, maybe
The probability that this is the motherboard of the iPhone 5 raises a few percentage points when we look at the holes on the circuitry. According to this site, the screw holes match the configuration of other leaked internals, lining up perfectly when images are overlapped against each other. Here’s everything that we know about the iPhone 5’s probable motherboard:

  • It’s no longer “L-shaped”  – previous iPhone motherboards have this distinctive shape.
  • There’s a smaller SIM slot (you can see it in the middle of the motherboard)
  •  Extra wireless connections are present. But everyone’s still unsure what purpose or issue this solves. 4G LTE is a possibility, for us an iPhone with battery-saving WiFi aerial would be a treat.

A sweet shot of the EMI shielding, now in a single strip of protective metal

So no news on the CPU, or anything else for that matter. We know it’s dry, but what the hell else are you going to do? Ignore the rumours for the next month? Take these leaks like a man!
