LG confirms G Pad: 8.3″ Full HD,1.7Ghz quad-core CPU
LG announced an 8.3-inch Full HD tablet before the 10times (formerly known as IFA) trade show in Berlin this week. Given its size, power and impressive display, the G Pad will most likely play in a space somewhere between the iPad Mini and the Nexus 7.
The display is where it’s at. LG hails the G Pad to be the first 8-inch tablet to support Full HD. The 1920×1200 is backed up by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7Ghz quad-core processor that you’ll find in the HTC One and a 4600mAh battery. On the memory side of the specs there’s 2GB RAM and 16GB storage as PC Mag suggests.
The G Pad is “as light as a newspaper” and will weigh 338g which is slightly less than the Nexus 7 (2012) but a tad more than the 7.9-inch iPad Mini. It will also feature a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.
The G Pad will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has a few integrated apps up its sleeve. QPair for example will let you pair incoming calls to your smartphone to your G Pad. Similarly, QMemo will sync your notes between your two devices. QSlide will let your run three apps simultaneously while simply swiping our sliding one to the side. KnockON will wake the G Pad up when you tap or knock on it twice.
“Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG’s premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices,” Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO of the LG Mobile, said. LG further emphasize that this 8-inch is meant to build on the recent success of the G2 smartphone.
The G Pad will start rolling in North America, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere sometime before you can say Christmas and will be available in both black and white. Pricing and other details are expected to be revealed later this week.
