Google Watch with Nexus could launch 31 October

These type of situations are bound to happen. First Sony, then Samsung and soon (hopefully) Apple. Today though, there’s more news on the Google Watch, codenamed “Gem”.

Artem Russakovskii, a self-confessed “die-hard Android fan” and founder of Android Police, dropped a hint earlier this week about the Google Watch:

Google will announce a Nexus watch, codenamed Gem, likely together with the KitKat announcement. The date I have, which, once again, is about a month old, is also October 31st.

What we do know about the Google Watch is that it will be Bluetooth 4.0 compatible and have a “longer battery life” said 9to5google. Hopefully longer than the day and a half offered by most smartwatches (*cough* Galaxy Gear).

The concept drawing above (from GeeksHaveLanded) would make it hard to choose between a round or square face. Both suit the Google Now interface, so perhaps that was the app’s ultimate destiny. Google Now certainly doesn’t get much play on our office phones.

Imagine what a Google Watch could look like, and you’dd see the results seems very much in line with the Google way of thinking. Quick, clean with Android-style swiping and functionality. Just like this picture paints it:

The creator of the concept watch has it spot-on with pinch-to-homescreen here. This, combined with Nexus and possibly heavy Google Now implantatio, would create something worth wearing. As long as the watch doesn’t have to be constantly paired with a smartphone, that is. There’s even more concept art, care of The Next Web. These concepts (from the same designer) show us how easily Google Now would work with the “Gem”. Quick, clean and highly functional.

Pinch to homescreen looks great. Let’s hope it makes it into the final product in some form

Just to repeat, these are all concept renders and the Google Watch may not look anything like these. But let’s hope that Google is paying attention in one form or another.
