Nokia’s colourful Android smartphone ‘Normandy’ leaked, shows dual-SIM

Nokia’s rumoured Android smartphone has been spotted a few times around the web recently showing the colour range and some other noteworthy tidbits. The so-called Normandy is an interesting project tease and would be Nokia’s first venture into Google’s mobile OS territory, setting itself apart as a Windows Phone exclusive OEM.

The rumours started back in December when The Verge claimed that Nokia is planning on releasing a low-end device aimed at emerging markets early this year and is going “full steam ahead” with the project.

This image by @evleaks was recently tweeted and shows the Normandy running Skype, and indicates dual-SIM phone functionality with a prominent back button at the bottom of the Normandy’s display. It also shows a rather sleek-looking interface:

Other specs as claimed by GSMArena include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC, 4″ 480×854 display, 5MP camera, and Android KitKat.

Whether the Nokia Normandy will run Android Kitkat or a modified version thereof remains to be seen. Different to what GSMArena claims above, The Verge’s sources suggest that Nokia will be sporting Normandy with a branched-off version of Android instead — something similar to what Amazon does with the Kindle Fire. The latter seems most likely to be the case.

As per usual the case with the Finnish tech giant, its products are meant to be fun and friendly. With a leaked press release, @evleaks posted the Normandy’s supposed colour range, including everything from bright green, yellow, red, blue, purple and so forth.

This picture of a posing “engineering prototype” originally appeared on Weibo and shows off a somewhat strange melange between Windows Phone and Android OS but clashes with the leaks shown above. While the leak might be quite new, the prototype is most likely not the real deal.
