Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 now available in South Africa

Samsung has announced the South African availability of two models in its Galaxy A-range, including the Samsung Galaxy A3 and Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphones.

Jumping off the back of the failed Samsung Galaxy Alpha, the A-range embodies the all-metal, lightweight and wafer-thin construction philosophies of its more liberally-priced brother. This doesn’t mean that the A3 and A5 are ridiculous in any sense though. These phones are geared towards the mid-range consumer markets, according to the company.

“This latest series is designed for those who embrace self-expression and with these devices we have demonstrated our commitment to deliver smartphones equipped with the slimmest metal body with a comfortable grip for ease of use,” notes Justin Hume, Product Marketing and Integrated Mobility director at Samsung South Africa.

“The range empowers consumers to choose a device which reflects their personal style and lifestyle needs, not just in terms of their unique features, but also their size and colour options.”

And style is one thing these phones definitely have, coming in at just 6.7 and 6.9mm thin respectively and are rather fetching.

The A3 (above), the cheaper of the two, features a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU with 1GB of RAM and an 8MP rear camera. Up front, there’s a 5MP selfie camera with a host of features for the narcissist. Additionally, dual SIM support comes with a 1900mAh battery, 16GB of internal memory and a 4.5-inch sAMOLED display.

The A5 (feature image) however features more impressive specs including a 13MP rear camera, a 2300mAh battery and a 5.0-inch sAMOLED screen. 2GB of RAM joins the same CPU but 4G support is included in the A5. The same selfie camera and apps apply here too.

The Samsung Galaxy A3 is priced at R4999 while the Galaxy A5 comes in at R6499.
