Microsoft announces Xbox One Elite Bundle with 1TB SSD, Elite controller

Microsoft has just announced its plans for a new Xbox One SKU. Accompanying a myriad of themed-bundles and the standard 1TB console, the company will also be releasing an Elite Bundle.

The new Elite console doesn’t have any different internal components (that we know of) except for a 1TB solid state hybrid drive.

According to Major Nelson’s blog, the system will store “frequently-accessed files on a solid state partition and optimizes system performance so you can get to the action up to 20 percent faster from energy-saving mode.”

The Elite console will come in a fully matte finish, as opposed to the current system which is both matte and gloss.

As implied by the name, the SKU will also contain an Xbox One Elite Wireless controller, which should make gamers very happy. The controller is in direct competition to Scuff Gaming’s own range of customisable controllers. The controller allows the user to change out the D-pad, allocate face buttons to puddles underneath the controller, and more.

According to the post, the device will come with Windows 10, which means it will only be out after Microsoft upgrades their current Metro-style interface to the shiny new iteration in November.

It will be retailing for US$499 in the US, which isn’t a bad price considering its value added goodies. With South Africa’s current currency woes though, expect a much higher price-point if/when it hits our shores.

Apart from the Elite Xbox One console, Microsoft also announced a new limited edition controller. The device is called Lunar White and features a white face, black buttons, black underside, and gold D-pad and triggers. It will also feature improved control grip.

Lunar White will be a standard Xbox One controller and won’t boast the company’s Elite controller’s features but it will be exclusive to GameStop for US$65.
