Playstation 4 Neo is very real, Sony’s Andrew House confirms

Sony’s Andrew House today confirmed what console gamers across the world has been hoping is true for the past few months: the PlayStation 4 Neo is a very real thing.

Dubbed a “high-end PS4”, the company’s president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment noted that the console will not replace, but accompany the PlayStation 4 in its console lineup.

“It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4,” claims House, speaking to The Financial Times (via NeoGAF).

“We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.”

That’s some pretty huge news, especially since rumours about of a PlayStation 4.5 and a PS4 Neo have been proliferating through the industry for around three months now. This is the first real confirmation that Sony’s working on a new, faster console.

While House did admit that the console is in the works, he was swift to note that the machine will not debut at E3 2016 next week, nor will a release date or pricing details be announced. It will, however, be more expensive than the standard PlayStation 4.

The beefier PlayStation 4 Neo should also help Sony with its virtual reality ambitions with the PlayStation VR.

At least “all games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4,” he concludes.

Your move, Microsoft.
