Lamborghini Alpha One phone is an overpriced ZTE Axon 7

Remember when Acer teamed up with Ferrari to reveal a variety of overpriced gadgets, such as a laptop? Now, Lamborghini has gone for a “hold my beer” moment and launched the Lamborghini Alpha One smartphone.

The phone, priced at US$2450, is apparently made out of Italian leather and “liquid metal”, resembling a square LG G4 in some ways (well, only because of the leather back).

However, take a look at the spec sheet and it’s clear that the device might be based on the ZTE Axon 7, featuring the same Snapdragon 820 processor (no 2017 silicon here), 3250mAh battery, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The phone even shares a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen (2560×1440), similar camera housing and fingerprint scanner, hybrid SIM slots, a 20MP f/1.8 aperture main camera and dual front-facing speakers.

A cursory look at the screen reveals a take on Android that feels straight out of 2012, with red/brown hues and seemingly no app drawer. You know things are bad when almost every other low-cost Chinese brand out there looks easier on the eyes.

Hell, for such an overpriced phone, you’d expect the promotional material to actually be accurate. Instead, we’ve got flipped words and icons in the above image. Strange.

Of course, the Axon 7 retails for roughly US$400. So you could get six of ZTE’s phones for the Alpha One’s US$2450 price tag. Or if you’re the nouveau riche type and want a tacky phone to go with your gold-plated Lamborghini, why not…
