YouTube has introduced a new tool for artists. Called Music insights, its function is to give artists data about where their music is being viewed the most. YouTube says this data can help artists create opportunities for both themselves and fans.

Music insights is part of the recently launched YouTube for Artists site. The company says that the new tool will not only help artist grow their community on YouTube but can also help them grow it offline.

The kind of data that artist can obtain from music insights includes data on which cities around the world is the artist most popular in. YouTube offers artists a few ideas about how they can use the data to their advantage. The company says that this data can be used when an artist is planning a tour, stating that knowing which city an artist is popular gives an idea of where an artist can get fans to come to the concert. That in a way plan concerts and not worry about whether if anyone is going to come to their concert.

The data also reveals the top tracks by artist, views from both artists’ official music videos and fan uploads claimed using Content ID.

Music insights

Artists can show this data to radio stations and prove to them why they are worth being added to their playlist. This data is more insightful than the views count on videos. It includes fan uploaded videos that use the artist’s song as soundtrack on other videos. Artists can, the company says, share insights from their data to build buzz for a new video or express appreciation to the fans who love their music.

YouTube has, starting today, data for more than 10,000 of the most popular artists on YouTube and Google. With time, more data on other artist’s will become available, the company says.

The website YouTube for Artist is available in 22 languages, catering for the YouTube users that view the artist’s videos around the world.
