Watch Deadpool host the trailer for his own trailer

For a select corps of comic book fans the Deadpool movie is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of 2015. They’ll be clamoring to watch the wise-cracking vigilante in action, hoping that someone’s finally made a comic-book adaption that “gets” them.

And if the latest teaser for the official Deadpool trailer is anything to go by, then it looks like they may well get just that.

Hosted by Deadpool himself (as played by Ryan Reynolds), the trailer doesn’t so much break the fourth wall as smash it into tiny pieces.

That’s in line with the finest traditions of the comic, where the device is often used for humorous effect.

For those who don’t know, Deadpool is the alter ego of Wade Winston Wilson, a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment is left with accelerated healing powers and sever mental instability.

The film tells his origin story and sees Reynolds reprise the roll he first took up in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. If this teaser is anything to go by though, this film pretty much completely disavows that work.

Deadpool is set to hit theatre screens in early 2016.
