The latest campaign to save the rhino? 40 second clips of people dancing

There have been plenty of attempts to curb rhino-poaching across Africa using technology. While the vast majority of those efforts. While most of those use drones, a new initiative is looking to make a difference by asking people to post 40-second videos of themselves dancing.

Why 40 seconds? Well, according to Rhino Disharmony the group behind the campaign, that’s how long it takes a poacher to chop off a rhino’s horn.

According to a press release sent to Memeburn, “the 40 Seconds rhino dance” (#My40sforRhinos) campaign aims to creating awareness about the increasing and devastating levels of rhino poaching:

“Once someone has videoed their dance – and it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are at dancing – the content must then be shared in order to spread the word and stimulate as much international awareness as possible. Rhino Disharmony Facebook page will be the main hub for this shared video content, uniting the world’s ‘rhino dancers’ together”.

In order to participate in the campaign, users must mention why they’re doing the dance, keep the video to a maximum of 40 seconds’ duration, use the hashtag #My40sforRhinos and tag at least one person calling them to action.
