#GoSandile: the South African Twitter campaign that’ll warm your heart

Here’s something to bring a little hope to your Monday morning. It’s an inspiring Twitter campaign aimed at giving courage to a double amputee as he learns to walk again.

Four years ago, 17-year-old Sandile lost his legs due to a bacterial infection. Since then, the Johaneesburg teen has battled to get around on wheelchair, with taxis frequently refusing to stop for him.

As a result, his confidence began to slip, along with his performance at school.

In a bid to restore Sandile’s confidence and make everyday life easier for him, non-profits One School At A Time and Jumping Kids teamed up to change his situation and fit him with prosthetic legs.

As the organisations look to build awareness of the project and to encourage Sandile as he learns to walk again, they’ve launched #GoSandile Twitter campaign. As tweets with the #GoSandile hashtag come through, they will be added to a Twitter Track for him “to walk on, to motivate and inspire him,” One School at a Time says.
