Twitter mourns Club Penguin’s death, its collective ‘childhood’

If you were a born in the 90s or early 2000s, chances are you entered the Club Penguin world at some point in your life.

Disney’s massively multiplayer game allowed users to sport penguin avatars and traverse a wintery virtual world full of games and activities.

But on 29 March 2017, after 12 years of providing the internet with joy and laughter, Club Penguin shut down its servers.

It was a moment of deep sadness for many.

But Club Penguin wasn’t only known for its fun and games. It was also the source of many a meme.

Disney’s strict rules and regulations also allowed for meme exploitation.

But the end marked a moment of freedom for one user.

Waddle on.
