Whited00r delivers custom iOS 5-like ‘downgrade’ for iPhone 2G and 3G

The need for speed, or lack thereof, is how the iOS 5 update “punished” older iPhone models. iPhone 3GS users reported a slower interface. iPhone 2G and 3G users reported nothing, as iOS 5 is incompatible with these models. Enter Team Whited00r, a hacking group who have taken a custom version of iOS 3.1.3 and upgraded it with iOS 5 features. Welcome to the party, iPhone 2G and 3G users.

Feature rich

Whited00r 5 is an incredible effort and a colossal change from the stock-standard iOS 3. Features include:

Multitasking — As with iOS 4, multitasking works with a long-press of the home button within an active app. Users can also activate the rotation lock and music player by scrolling on the multitask bar.

Folders — The feature no dignified iPhone user can live without comes standard with Whited00r. The feature is “porter perfectly” and allows users to drag and drop apps to create folders.

iCloud — Games saves, apps, and documents are now wirelessly saved. Not to Apple’s server (that would be an impossibility), but to Dropbox, where the content can be shared to any device running WhiteDoor.

Safari — Whited00r upgrades the dismal performance of the iOS 3 browser and adds further functionality such as “find in page” and “Flash video converter”.

Jailbreak — Yes sir, all Whited00r devices come standard with a jailbreak, built into the meat of the OS. Cydia is present in its “immoral” glory for Whited00r users to enjoy.

Safe and simple installation

Visit the download link, select your iPhone model, download the compatible firmware, open iTunes and restore your device the jailbreak way (hold shift or ALT key when you click “restore”). Point to the custom firmware and enjoy the finest version of iOS 3 yet released. A word of warning, Whited00r recommends that when it comes time to restore from a backup, you select “Setup a new iPhone/iPod”. This is to “improve speed and avoid strange problems”.

The custom firmware, announced last year is now available for download.
