Windows 8 Consumer Preview with 100,000 new changes is available, download it right now! Select your regional OS and enjoy the big-M’s latest foray into the oversimplified Metro UI. While other sites may have reviews of the latest version of the OS, have faith that Gearburn will deliver the definitive review in the next few days. But for now:
- Windows 8 includes “charms”, Microsoft’s new name for “options”.
- Touchscreen is where it’s at, with Microsoft saying that even users with “reduced accuracy” can mix and match mouse and touch control for faster navigation.
- Apps rule the roost — users can now download apps, Windows Store is ready for business. Unlike in the Developer Preview which locked out the App Store. During the Consumer Preview period all of the apps in the store will be free, and Microsoft will add new apps to the store throughout the beta period.
- The Metro UI and traditional Windows desktop will work in tandem. Microsoft promises that the desktop isn’t going away anytime soon.
