A geek’s worst foe: enter the $130 Withings Wi-Fi scale

There are some gadgets that no one should have to deal with. Withings new Wi-Fi scale that peers deep into your bacon-loving soul is one of them. For US$130, Withings WS-30 will measure weight, BMI, sleep patterns, daily physical activity and even posture. This info is then sent to the Withings Health Companion App so that a computer can judge you for eating so many fruit pies. And yes, we have a video for you.

Withings cares about this, “a seamless and computer-free experience from the install stage to everyday use”. And it’s true. No computer is needed, only the scale, the app and an abundance of weight. The info though can be sent to anyone, not just Withings. Once the scale has judged you, the info can even be sent to Twitter, if you’re brave enough. The scale is pictured with an iPhone, but it’s an iOS app so iPod and iPad can also come to the party.

The scale even has profiles, up to eight for each person brave enough to step on board. The Health Companion app is a free download which even manages to measure sleep data and daily physical activities. And it’s available for purchase right now, in the US that is. Reads more about the WS-30 here, a cool product we can’t wait to review.
