Oppo’s 4.7-inch R819 is 7.3mm thin, runs stock Android

R819

Skillfully named the R819, Chinese company Oppo just announced a 4.7-inch light and sleek smartphone that comes with the option of running stock Android. Fast, clean and smooth the way Google intended.

The Oppo R819 will be launched with the Chinese firm’s Color ROM but, using a quick and simple side loading procedure, you can install stock Android. The Oppo has dual-SIM capabilities and has an extremely light-weight design. It’s only available in white and the company claims it to be one of the thinnest and lightest in the world.

The phone’s 7.3mmm slim frame is also very light at 110 grams. Inside there’s a quad-core (yeah) which is a MediaTek (aw) together with 720p display, 1GB RAM and 16GB. It also has a 8 MP rear camera that’s accompanied by a LED flash and has a 2 MP front cam. This whole business will be powered by a 2000mAh battery.

Like the company gleefully boasts, the R819 offers a “stunning screen, great camera and a long battery life. A unique fusion of function and design, the R819 is convenience without compromise.”

The rear camera has a 88 degree shooting angle. The R819 also has some gesture features such as Tap To Wake so you just tap the screen twice to wake him up. It also knows when it’s being used and won’t turn off when you’re looking at it.

It’s available for US$350 (R3500, not R819) on Oppo’s European site with delivery expected sometime in September.

This is of course no HTC One or Nexus 4 but will certainly be a welcome gift for those seeking a more budget stock Android phone. Seeing as there is only a white model available, the BLU Vivo 4.3 might be a very close competitor and a darker alternative. Other competitors include the Coolpad 8920 and Archos’ 35 Carbon, 50 Platinum and 53 Platinum.
