CyanogenMod’s one-click installer launches on Google Play

CyanogenMod Installer

Keen for a cleaner, more unique experience on your Android device but find the manual CyanogenMod install process daunting? Well, the popular modified Android operating system CyanogenMod has just launched a user-friendly installer on Google Play with the hope of changing this. The installer takes care of all the tricky ins and outs of getting a custom ROM running on your Android device. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

The greatest barrier between this custom Android software and the general user-base has been its tiring, if not daunting, install process. Initially a project by a group of dedicated devs, Cyanogen Inc. was soon announced in September as a startup with the aim of launching a CM Installer.

Why do you need a custom MOD? On the face of it all, the ROM is more custom-friendly than an often outdated Android operating system. This means that you can use its integrated theming capabilities to make your device exceptionally unique.

Furthermore, CyanogenMod provides users with greater customisation, performance and functionality than many Android devices. Enhanced security functionality such as Privacy Guard protects users’ data from malicious or overzealous applications.

The software is free of course and the easy one-click process will definitely leverage the ROM from a group of dev hobbyists to a commercial offering. Although there are currently over 9-million users registered, the service is planning to increase its user-base significantly in the coming years. Steve Kondik, Co-Founder and CTO of Cyanogen Inc has big plans for the installer:

“Our goal for the installer has always been to allow more users to experience the benefits of CyanogenMod, without the hassles of technical guides and concerns associated with the process. I’m especially pleased by the support the community has shown for our initiative and want to thank all those that helped beta test the installer.”

CM Installer Google Play

Provided that you’re carrying the right phone model (Android 2.3.3 and up), you don’t need to even root or unlock your Android phone to use the CM Installer.

All you need do is run the installer from Google Play on your smartphone or tablet and connect it to your PC. After you’ve clicked “start”, your phone will be wiped and you’ll have the latest version of CyanogenMod.
