Sony Xperia C4 selfie phone is coming to South Africa Q3 2015

Sony is quickly getting through it’s fourth-generation of its current range, with the Xperia Z4 spotted a few weeks ago, and the Xperia E4 and M4 Aqua launched a little earlier this year. Adding to the lineup, the Sony Xperia C4 debuts with a focus on selfies.

Tony McNulty, VP of Sony Mobile’s value category business management, does a good job of explaining the phone in a nutshell:

Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch. Benefiting from Sony’s camera expertise, the 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience.

To be fair, the Sony Xperia C3 was more than just a pretty self-promoter itself; it was a genuinely solid device. Sony will likely want to outdo the outgoing model, but what has the company improved?

For starters, the 5.5-inch screen size is retained but it now boasts a 1920×1080 resolution, a jump from the 720p unit available in the C3. Sony has also packed its Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 in the phone, which automatically enhances and adjusts the picture on screen to best suit the viewer.

Processing power also gets a boost, with the Sony Xperia C4 boasting an eight-core 1.7GHz MediaTek MTK6752 SoC which should present the user with admirable multitasking performance.

There’s no 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, with the option to expand the latter using the microSD card slot.

But the real stars of the Sony Xperia C4 are the cameras, with a 5MP snapper up front with Exmor R and flash, and a 13MP at the rear, boasting HDR and autofocus. According to Sony, its PROselfie system automatically optomises settings to “capture sharp, clear portraits, even in low light.”

There’s a clear focus on multimedia production and consumption with this phone, so Sony has also tweaked the ClearAudio+ and xLOUD audio systems on the device.

Powering all of this is the larger 2600mAh (larger than the Samsung Galaxy S6, mind) which should last for the majority of the day.

The device will also be available in both dual and single SIM modes in South Africa from Q3 2015. No pricing information is available as yet.
