NIS America, Atlus cut publishing ties in Europe thanks to Sega
It seems that NIS America and Sega’s sour relationship has finally boiled over.
In an announcement this weekend made by NIS head Takura Yamashita, the company will no longer publish games from Japanese developer Atlus.
Atlus was bought out by Sega back in 2013, so one could say that this move was a long-time coming.
“Atlus became very picky about selecting the European publishing partner after it was bought by Sega. It always cherry picked its EU publishing partner based on who offered the highest minimum guarantee on a title by title basis. I noticed that it was very difficult for NIS America to establish an equal-partnership with Atlus,” Yamashita explained to MCV.
He also noted that the contract was terminated around 10 days ago.
While we’re not sure what this ultimately means for the JRPG fans in the EMEA regions, it definitely ends an era for both companies, and indeed fans of games like Persona Q and Persona 4 Golden.
