When Sony launched the PlayStation 4 15 November, gamers from the US and Canada have managed to buy over 1-million of these bad boys in just 24 hours. While there has been some concern over reported bugs of the gaming console, Sony’s rest assured that the issue is “isolated” and gamers needn’t worry.

Sony President Shuhei Yoshida rightfully boasted in a tweet yesterday:
PS4 has sold through over 1 million units within 24 hours of the launch in North America!!! 😀

Yoshida later tweeted that this is in fact a record figure for PlayStation.
Nintendo’s gaming console, the Wii U, has sold over 3.91-million since its release last year this time. With the PS4 launching in popular markets such as Europe in the coming weeks, it’s possible that Sony will overtake Nintendo before the end of the year. Ouch.
At the beginning of this month, Sony announced that it has managed to sell a massive 80-million PlayStation 3 consoles since 2006. The PS4’s greatest competitor, the Xbox One, is officially launching 22 November in 13 markets across the globe.
Despite this success, there have been PS4 users reporting technical issues over the weekend. These issues include random game crashes and the notorious “blue light of death” where the console doesn’t boot or do anything save for a flashing blue light on the machine.
As reported by GamesBeat, a Sony representative said, “We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.”
He further states that only 0.4% of the consoles [or 4000 users] are affected and that the situation “is within [Sony’s] expectations for a new product introduction.”
