There’s no doubting the fact that Windows 10 is seeing some big numbers – even if Microsoft is taking an aggressive stance in pushing the update to users.

Gamers are taking to the update in a big way as well, according to the latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey.

As of March 2016, the 64-bit flavour of Windows 10 is the most popular operating system on Steam, gaining 2.96% compared to the previous month. This leaves it with 36.97% of total OS marketshare on Steam.

The jump came primarily at the expense of Windows 7 64-bit (sitting at 32.99%), having lost 1.22% compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, Windows 8.1 64-bit was a long way behind in third place, having lost 0.31% to sit at 12.93% total OS marketshare.

Windows 10 sees a jump in general

The Steam news comes on the back of Microsoft’s BUILD conference, which saw the firm announce that there were over 270-million “active Windows 10 devices”.

Microsoft added that the growth outpaced Windows 7’s growth “in the same timeframe by 145%”.

“We are on track to reach our ambitious goal of one billion Windows 10 devices in the next few years,” the company’s Terry Myerson added in a blog post.
