A new tweets per second record has been set by a Japanse movie “Castle in the Sky“. Twitter released a statement confirming the new record via its communications account, Twittercomms.
“On Dec 9, the television screening in Japan of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky” led to 25 088 Tweets per second — a new Twitter record,” said the mircoblogging platform.

The movie was released in 1986 and was written and directed by prominent Japanese director, Hayao Miyazaki, who was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time magazine. Miyazaki’s most popular movie is arguably 2001’s Spirited Away.
Previous tweets per second record holders include, Beyonce’s MTV Video Music Awards pregnancy announcement that raked up an impressive 8 868 tweets per second, a Twitter first. Earlier this year the United States women’s football final game against Japan also garnered a solid 7 196 tweets per second.
Other impressive tweets per second nominees include, Steve Jobs’ death with 6 049 tweets per second. Jobs’ resignation saw more tweets per second with just over 7 000. Bin Laden’s death also had the tweets flying at 5 106 tweets per second. And the Japanese earthquake and tsunami on March 11 generated 5 530.
Castle in the Sky is clearly an impressive story. It attracted the attention of big time studios such as Streamline and Disney with two English versions produced, starring Lara Cody and Anna Paquin.
