YouTube hits 4-billion daily videos

YouTube is now streaming 4-billion videos a day, a 25% increase over the past eight months, according to a report from Reuters.

The number represents daily videos viewings across all platforms including mobile devices and PCs. The company has also revealed that roughly 60 hours of video are now uploaded to YouTube every minute, compared with the 48 hours of video uploaded per minute in May 2011.

YouTube is seen one of Google Inc’s key opportunities for generating new sources of revenue outside its traditional internet search advertising business. Of the 4-billion videos viewed a day on YouTube, though, only 3-billion make Google any money. This number could, however, increase in the near future. THe advertisers are, after all, already there. According to the site “98 of AdAge’s Top 100 advertisers have run campaigns on YouTube and the Google Display Network”.

Late last year the video sharing site redesigned its website to more prominently showcase specialised “channels” organised around different kinds of content.

“We’re launching an improved channel design focused on what matters most: helping users find great videos. As different uploaders have different goals, we’ve created new Channel templates to meet your needs whether you produce one video a week or have thousands of videos for a fan to browse,” YouTube wrote.

Following the redesign, YouTube also announced that it had struck 100 original video programming deals with media partners including Madonna, Jay-Z, Deepak Chopra, Tony Hawk and Rainn Wilson.

YouTube’s addition of original content could very well see the site not only monetise better but continue to on its mammoth growth trajectory.
