Twitter’s response to popular singer Whitney Houston’s death has been overwhelming, with RIP Whitney taking the global top trending spot.
The 48-year-old Houston was reportedly found dead in the bath tub of her room in the Beverly Hilton hotel, where she was staying prior to tonight’s Grammy Awards.

According to TMZ, the singer and a group of friends had “partied heavily” in the hotel and had “stood out because they were so boisterous”.
Fellow singer Rihanna sent out a string of tweets of emotional tweets as the news broke:

Houston sold over 55-million records in the US alone and is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. She also starred in the 1992 film The Bodyguard, whose soundtrack won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Houston performed the lead single on the album “I Will Always Love You “, which went on to become the best-selling single by a female artist in music history.
