HalfArsed-a Chef: A dangerous kitchen to be in [Video]

Imitation is the best form flattery. But what about mockery? What’s that best for? South Africans are pretty excited that a local version of the popular cooking contest Master Chef has finally hit their shores. This is the second big cooking franchise to hit the country, so clearly everyone is quite overwhelmed by all the cooking.

No one is more excited than spice company NOMU who has bravely commissioned a web series spoof of Master Chef. The three episode web series intends to highlight the “essence” of South African cooking by asking contestants to create things out of old favourites like Boerewors (a spicy sausage), and make gumboot dance puree. There is even an episode centered around politician Kenny Kunene that features Sushi.

The show’s contestants include bloggers and comedians as well South African celebrity Liezel van der Westhuizen. Leader of the Democratic Party Helen Zille and musician Arno Carstens also make a guest appearance. The whole thing plays out as one humorous ad for NOMU.
