One of the biggest fears we have about the web is that it’s an easy medium for criminals to operate in. But now it seems authorities are taking back the space. Over the last few years they’ve donned their social media caps and busted some criminals with a few strokes of their keyboards.

In the last five years more than 100 000 UK crimes have been linked to Facebook and the UK police have reported a 540% increase in Facebook crimes over the past three years, according to the Criminal Justice Degrees Guide.
The infographic below, shows 20 crimes that were solved through Facebook. The criminals either uploaded photographic evidence or statuses about the crimes, or used Facebook to communicate about their criminal activity. Some of the cases depicted in the infographic cite several incidents in which Facebook cyberbullying, cyberstalking and relationship disputes have led to death.
