Kony 2012 Part II: Beyond Famous [Video]

On the back of Kony 2012, the group behind the mind blowing social media campaign has decided to release another documentary. The new documentary highlights the issues raised by the first one, following worldwide interest. Kony 2012 Part 2 launched online just as the first one hopes to employ the same social media tools in its quest for justice. Using the hashatag, #beyondfamous the second video takes the complex conflict from #KONY2012 and provides more context about the Lord’s Resistance Army in Southern Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The group is hoping the second video will achieve the same success as the first. Following criticism of the first film, the group decided to put together another film to answer questions. The film, titled Beyond Famous, premiered worldwide 5 April. It explains the creation of the campaign and what has been achieved so far in the quest to stop Kony.

According to Invisible Children:

Beyond Famous offers a closer look at the LRA and explores the solutions put forward by leaders of the currently-affected areas of CAR, DRC, and South Sudan, where local communities continue to live under the constant threat of LRA violence. This generation has responded to the call to make Joseph Kony famous. Now we need to dig deeper and turn awareness into informed action. That starts with sharing this film and continues with participating in Cover the Night, the advocacy and awareness event taking place worldwide on April 20th.

The original video to date has received more than 100-million hits on YouTube, and has been described as the “most” viral video in history.
