“Get ready to begin your Pottermore journey, because Pottermore.com is now opening to everyone. Over the coming days, we’ll be inviting new users onto Pottermore.com. We’re expecting to be really busy to start with and plan to activate new registrations in a steady stream. This means that you may not get access to Pottermore immediately after you sign up but we will get you exploring the site as quickly possible,” said the site in a blog post.

Fans of the boy-wizard will be able to access additional writing from Rowling that didn’t make to the published version of the books. They will also be treated to digital games extending the series’ themes and plot-lines, ebook reading and a platform for Harry Potter fans to interact with each other.

When you sign up, you are assigned to a Hogwarts house by the Sorting Hat, a wand chooses you then off into the site’s content you go. You can then add other Pottermore users as friends, take on magical missions, compete with other Hogwarts houses and explore Harry’s world. It’s a magical social network.

Users are promised “exclusive new content from J.K. Rowling,” which reportedly includes 18 000 words of background material filling out the books’ characters and settings.
