China’s Renren signs deal with Japanese mobile gaming company DeNa

Chinese Facebook clone Renren and Japanese mobile gaming company DeNa have signed a deal in what seems to be a bid by the latter to increase its presence on Chinese mobile devices.

Under the terms of the deal Renen will feature a number DeNa titles on its mobile app for Android. In fact, the Japanese gaming manufacturer will have its own dedicated section in the app. Users can download games from the Mobage section and log in to Mobage with their Renren IDs.

“DeNA China’s goal is to bring high-quality mobile games from around the world to the ever-increasing smartphone users in China,” said Lou Fei, Vice President of DeNA China. “Mobage and Renren are complementary in terms of users and offerings, and DeNA hopes to pioneer China’s social gaming market together with Renren.”

“As we continue our efforts in building a scalable and mobile-centric eco-system around our real-name social network, we chose DeNA to be one of the first partners for our newly launched Renren Android app. The host of games provided by DeNA will undoubtedly add to our mobile users’ experience and engagement,” said James Liu, Chief Operating Officer of Renren.

The deal gives DeNa access to Renren’s approximately 154-million users, adding to the 300-million plus registered Sina Weibo users it gained access to through a similar deal in March.
