You may have heard about a little phone called the Samsung Galaxy S III… it launched on 29 May this year in Europe and filtered out to the rest of the world in early June. This weekend a Samsung exec confirmed the Korean tech giant had already sold over 10-million Galaxy S III devices. Yes, it’s still July.

According to local site Yonhap News, the president of Samsung’s information technology and mobile communication division, Shin Jong-kyun, told reporters yesterday that the global sales had already surpassed 10 million, although he didn’t specify by how much. But it still means that Samsung has sold an average of 190 000 devices a day since the launch.
It’s definitely smashed the company’s previous record, held by the S III’s predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S II. That phone only hit 10-million sales five months after its launch in April last year, and the first Galaxy S took seven months to hit the same milestone.
The successor to 2011’s best phone of the year, the S III is the company’s flagship smartphone and is available in 145 countries. Not a bad two months for what is arguably the most anticipated phone of 2012 — it accumulated more than three-million pre-orders before the official 29 May launch.
