Anonymous member claims responsibility for taking down GoDaddy

A member of hacker group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for taking down the website of GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain registrar and hosting company — and the outage seems to be affecting at least some of the millions of GoDaddy clients. A number of users have reported that they are unable to access websites or email services which are hosted by GoDaddy, and attempts to access GoDaddy.com are met with error messages.

The user operating the Twitter account @AnonymousOwn3r has taken responsibility for the hack, and suggested it was a not a group attack. S/he has not explained exactly why the company was targeted, but has mentioned that its DNS servers were taken down as a “test” of its security systems.

The GoDaddy team are aware of the service issues and are working on resolving the problem.
