Finally. Facebook has been hovering around the 955-million active user mark for a while now… but Mark Zuckerberg has just confirmed that more than a billion people access his social network every month.

In a short note, the hoodied one expressed his thanks to all the users who have made his startup a worldwide success:

If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.

It seems the platform hit the target as early as 14 September, but only released the news today. Zuckerberg also posted a link to a fact sheet which details some more impressive (self-reported) stats:

  • There have been over 1.13-trillion likes since the function launched in February 2009.
  • Over 219-billion photos have been uploaded to Facebook since it integrated the option in 2005. That stat refers to all the photos currently hosted on the site — if you include deleted photos, the figures pass 265 billion.
  • There are over 17-billion location-tagged posts, including check ins, since users were given the option in August 2010.
  • Over 62-million songs have been played 22-billion times using music applications on the platform — which amounts to around 210 000 years of music.
  • Facebook now has over 600-million mobile users. Yes, more than half of its total users log in using a mobile device.
