Hey, this is kind of cool. Microsoft’s put out a new ad narrated by CEO Steve Ballmer showing off everything he has on his Windows Phone.
No ad to show here.
Unfortunately for fans of Ballmer’s 1986 “Crazy Eddie” video, he doesn’t reprise the role.
Instead the ad is astute, focussing entirely on the operating system’s features and centres on people and the advice Ballmer gets given — and gives — on a daily basis.
Oh and if it’s to be believed, the Bill Gates reckons the Surface should have a purple touch cover.
As The Next Web points out, the ad is similar to the presentation that Joe Belfiore, the manager of Microsoft’s Windows Phone programme, gave at the Windows Phone 8 launch yesterday.
That potentially means that Microsoft’s TV spots could feature people from within the company, as well as celebrities showing off the phone’s features.
On the other hand, that strategy doesn’t really help generate appeal to ordinary people.
Which is probably why the company has also released another ad, positioning Windows Phones as devices for individuals but, you know, every individual.
While very obviously not a rip-off, the tone of the ad does have something of Apple’s “Think Different” video about it.
Combine the two Windows Phone 8 campaigns and the message becomes a lot clearer: you’re a complete individual, but you’re capable of mixing it up with the likes of Steve Ballmer and Jessica Alba.
