Worldsecond, an app funded by aker of fine watches and pens Montblanc, aims to have a collective gathering of people from all over the world participate in what it hopes to be the largest amount of people taking just one photo at a specific time.
It sounds pretty simple. The app, available only for iPhone and Android, automatically counts down to the next photo click and shares this image on the Worldsecond site, creating a unique online mosaic of globally shared images all taken at exactly the same time all over the world. This all happens between October and December 2012, with a total of 60 individual Worldsecond photo snapping moments.

This is not the first time something like this has been done, but on this scale and global reach does put it in its own class. There will be prizes for the best single image and the best collection of images from a single user.
How these images will be checked for content, no one knows. And how the odd “photo of the inside of my pants” will be judged has not been clarified.
