Oscar Pistorius: the story as told through social media

Social media networks

Since the news broke early on Valentine’s Day that a woman had been found dead at the home of South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, social media has played an integral role — first in sharing the initial shock and news, and later every update and rumour. The bail hearing has been raptly followed on Twitter, as journalists were barred from filming and reduced to 140-characters and occasional snapshots when the magistrate has left the room. As details about the death of Reeva Steenkamp emerge, they have spread almost instantly from the courthouse around the world, documented in short bursts which are passed on in real time.

We’ll be keeping track of the social media conversations around #OscarPistorius, from the journalists tweeting on the scene to the reactions of notable Twitter users familiar with the case on Storify.
