Facebook finally allows you to reply to comments

This is pretty cool. Facebook has finally rolled out a facility that allows you to reply to comments on your posts.

Among other things, the new feature should make it easier to interact directly with individual readers and keep relevant conversations connected. In an official blog post, Facebook also says that the most active and engaging conversations around the posts will be pushed to the top.

Each person will see the order of a conversation differently however. Conversation threads are re-ordered by relevance to viewers, and their appearance will be based on people’s connections, specifically:

  • Positive feedback: the amount of positive feedback based on the total number of likes and replies in a conversation thread, which includes likes or replies by the page owner.
  • Connections: connections to participants in a thread may move the conversation higher. For example, conversations with comments left by friends may appear at the top.
  • Negative feedback: the total number of spam reports in a thread, as well as marks-as-spam made by the page owner. We also may down-rank comments made by frequent spammers.

You will be able to opt-into replies through the page admin panel in the manage permissions section where you will see a prompt to turn replies on. Once you opt-in, you will be able to opt-out but all pages will have the feature enabled on 10 July 2013. Also, the feature will be automatically turned on for profiles with more than 10 000 followers. At launch, this feature will only be available on desktop and we plan to make it available in the Graph API and mobile in the future.
