Since the terrorist attacks began on Saturday at Nairobi’s Westgate Mall, images, videos and messages about both on-the-ground events and support from around the world have filtered through the web. With Somali group al-Shabab claiming responsibility for the armed assault on the shopping mall which has left at least 69 people dead, Kenyan authorities and aid groups have been working to help the wounded, reunite the hostages with their families and capture the perpetrators.
In the aftermath of the attack, social media sites from Twitter to YouTube have been filled with footage from in and around the mall. Journalists and aid workers have shared what they’ve been witnessing, and Kenya’s police and defence forces have been frequently posting the latest news and information to their followers.
