Is MySpace slowly crawling back up? Latest stats show 36m users

New Myspace

What does a major relaunch and a heavy association with Justin Timberlake get you? If you’re Myspace, the answer would appear to a comeback, albeit a fairly slow one.

The social network, which once completely dominated the space, has revealed that it now has 36-million users, up from 21-million prior to its January relaunch.

As The Next Web notes, that’s not the fastest growth rate, given that the last time MySpace reported user numbers (about two weeks after its beta period ended), it said it had 31-million users.

That said, the company seems fairly satisfied with the growth and appears fairly certain that original content such as CRWN and Live At The Log Cabin will help it continue on a steady growth path.

It is however plainly evident that the company has a long way to go before it returns to the heights it once reached, before being swept completely off its feet by the arrival of Facebook. Even as niche player, it isn’t particularly strong. But if it can leverage the content it seems so keen to push properly, then user numbers might not be such a problem any more.
