WordPress geeks, unite! WordCamp set to hit Cape Town

WordCamp Cape Town

Yes, it’s that time of year again: one of the biggest meetups of small business owners, non-profit agencies, photographers, designers, bloggers, journalists and web developers who have one thing in common: WordPress.

The Cape Town leg of the international event series will see WordPress fans descend on Cape Town Stadium on 7 November for a day packed with sessions covering everything from first-hand stories about how blogging has helped kickstart careers to how the content management system has helped transform the lives of communities in the city’s townships. Oh, and how you can “build an audience in 743 difficult steps.”

The lineup of local and international speakers includes the likes of WooThemes founder Adii Pienaar, Flow Interactive’s user experience director Rian van der Merwe, RLabs founder Marlon Parker and Obox Design and SalesGenius cofounder Dave Perel, and the event will be emceed by the comedy team behind ‘Braai Day‘ and ‘Carguard Song‘ (yes, we’re talking about Derick Watts and The Sunday Blues).

Overall, the organisers expect to see more than 300 attendees who range from senior developers to those who use the massively popular platform for casual blogging. This year’s theme is “The Business of WordPress” and the event is being organised by a group of volunteers from the local Cape Town WordPress community. Early bird tickets have already sold out, but a limited amount of general tickets are still available for R350.
