Darren “Whackhead” Simpson is a DJ for the popular South African radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo who is famous for his elaborate prank calls. This time it wasn’t a prank though, the exorbitant bill that SANRAL has given someone is actually real, the bill in total comes to R434 893.19.

SANRAL is the company responsible for a controversial tolling system that runs along the highway encircling the city of Johannesburg. It is one of the few things that unite South Africa, but unlike the sports which we love, Sanral is universally despised from the the rich to the poor and across the race spectrum.
Darren goes on to tell the SANRAL employee “in a very Gerrie Nel way” (after a long wait through their answering service) how it is utterly impossible to actually even achieve this near half a million rand bill.
Between the time of the time of the SANRAL “services” launch on the 3 December 2013 and the time the bill was delivered on the 25 March 2014, which accumulates to a timeline of 102 days, coming to a staggering R4 264 per day every day! To put this in perspective, it would require the driver to go around all the tolls 170 times per day, every day… and this goes on in ludicrous style to a surprising end by the call center employee.
It’s definitely worth a listen:
