This is interesting. The Nelson Mandela Foundation is hosting a competition called YouTube Film Hack, which allows video content creators in South Africa, in collaboration with Google South Africa, to produce inspiring marketing content for YouTube, using global icon Nelson Mandela’s legacy as the creative springboard.

The YouTube Film Hack competition participants received a standard brief and a limited amount of time to create a YouTube campaign that will inspire South Africans across the country to follow in Mandela’s footsteps.
The competition submissions had to include a short YouTube film as well as an advertisement to drive traffic to the video. The three top submissions are currently live on YouTube and the number of views they receive is one of the judging criteria. Other criteria include the innovation and interactivity of the videos.
The first entry plays on the theme of hands, providing a semi-literal spin on the idea that Mandela’s legacy is now in our hands.
The second meanwhile tries to put a hip hop spin on Mandela’s life, talking about his global “clique” and all his “cribs”.
The final, and perhaps most professional-looking, entry comes from digital agency Quirk and campaigns for Lego to make a Nelson Mandela-themed Lego set.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation will select and announce the final winner on 27 June. Two members of the winning team will earn a trip to the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, sponsored by Google South Africa.
